| Mexican Economy Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez expects
talks with China on entry to the World Trade Organization to
resume in the coming months, according to China Daily.
Mexico is the only WTO country that has declined to endorse
China's accession.
Negotiations were interrupted in November because Chinese
negotiators were waiting for the new administration of Mexican
President Vicente Fox to take office.
Now that the Fox administration had taken shape, the talks
could resume, Mr Derbez said Thursday. "We called the Chinese
and we said that we'd like to talk," he said.
China needs membership endorsement from all WTO countries.
Mr Derbez, in Europe to attend the World Economic Forum and
meet with European executives, declined to say which sticking
points remained between China and Mexico.
He has previously said Mexico probably would not block China's
entry into the WTO.
He has also said Mexico was seeking "timetables that allow
us to appropriately adjust our economies".
Mexico has compensatory duties on about 1,400 Chinese products
that it said were being dumped in Mexico below cost.
China hopes to join the WTO this year after almost 15 years of
negotiations.
