Quake experts head for quake-hit India


A team comprising 8 Chinese seismologists who have been selected by the state seismological bureau will be leaving for quake-hit India for earthquake observation.

They are equipped with advanced seismograph facilities and they will work together with their Indian counterparts.

The team includes experts on seismic analysis and forecasting, seismological observation, seismic prospecting and exploration and anti-seismic structure.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Jiang Zemin, China's top legislator Li Peng and Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji offered condolences to their Indian counterparts after the earthquake.

They expressed their deepest sympathy to victims and their relatives.

The Chinese Red Cross sent its condolences to its Indian counterpart and offered US$50,000 of urgent aid to the people of the quake-stricken areas of India.
