| The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China exported
1.32 billion patacas (165 million U.S. dollars) of goods in January this year, down 29.1
percent on an
annual basis, according to the latest official statistics.
On the other hand, the SAR imported 1.21 billion patacas (151.25 million dollars) of
commodities, down 4.5 percent, the Statistics and Census Services of Macao SAR government
said.
The exports of textile products and clothes accounted for 76.3 percent of the total.
Macao-made goods were mainly exported to the United States and the European Union, making
up 75.9 percent of the total, the source said.
In January, Macao's imports of raw materials and semi-finished goods decreased 27.4
percent, while that of capital goods, fuels and lubricating oil went up 45.5 percent, 40.7
percent and 6.5 percent, respectively, from the same period of 2000.
The imports mainly came from neighboring Asian countries and regions. That from China's
inland areas and Hong Kong reached 47.2
percent of the total.
