The following are figures about China's trade with its top ten partners for January 2001, providedby the General Administration of Customs:

-- Japan: total, 5.172 billion U.S. dollars, down 5.5 percent on an annual basis; exports to Japan, 2.068 billion dollars, up 3.3 percent; imports, 2.564 billion dollars, down 13.0 percent.

-- The United States: total, 5.014 billion U.S. dollars, up 0.3percent; exports, 3.517 billion U.S. dollars, up 3.3 percent; imports, 1.497 billion U.S. dollars, down 6.2 percent.

-- The European Union: total, 5.407 billion U.S dollars, up 7.0percent; exports, 3.080 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.2 percent; imports, 2.328 billion U.S. dollars, up 3.1 percent.

-- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region: total, 3.430 billion U.S. dollars, down 13.9 percent; exports, 2.865 billion U.S. dollars down 15.0 percent; imports, 565.416 million U.S. dollars, down 8.4 percent.

-- ASEAN countries: total, 2.702 billion U.S. dollars, up 14.0 percent; exports, 1.094 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.8 percent; imports, 1.607 billion U.S. dollars, up 16.2 percent.

-- The Republic of Korea: total, 2.264 billion U.S. dollars, down 2.1 percent; exports, 719.692 million U.S. dollars, down 0.3 percent; imports, 1.544 billion U.S. dollars, down 2.9 percent.

-- Taiwan Province: total, 1.950 billion U.S. dollars, down 8.6percent; exports, 269.589 million U.S. dollars, down 27.5 percent;imports, 1.681 billion U.S. dollars, down 4.6 percent.

-- Australia: total, 548.027 million U.S. dollars, down 18.8 percent; exports, 227.423 million U.S. dollars, down 4.8 percent; imports, 320.604 million U.S. dollars, down 26.5 percent.

-- Russia: total, 1.082 billion U.S. dollars, up 126.0 percent;exports, 175.373 million U.S. dollars, up 23.0 percent; imports, 907.111 million U.S. dollars, up 169.5 percent.
