The Shenzhen Science & Technology Industrial Park was jointly founded by
the Shenzhen City Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in July 1985. It has been
confirmed by the State Council as one of China's 27 science and technology industrial
zones of the State and one of the earliest of its kinds. By fully utilizing the advantages
of the overall favorable environment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and its close
neighbor of Hong Kong, and by giving full play to the strength of the scientific research
institutions, especially the technical force of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the
Shenzhen Science & Technology Industrial Park aimed at making itself an important
window of China for exchanges in new and high technology with the rest of the world, and
an important base for developing hi-tech industries for Shenzhen City and the Pearl River
Delta. By enhancing the development and introduction of new and high technology, the park
has brought forth a number of influential unique products, and imported and developed more
than 100 items of new and high technology. Of these, 13 have been designated as the
national key projects, more than 50 projects have been listed in the provincial plan, and
five have become research findings meeting advanced world standards. The Shenzhen City
government has designated 20 enterprises as high-tech ones in the industrial park whose
products involve five categories. Now electronic information, new materials and
bio-engineering have become the three pillar industries in the park. |
