Qingdao City has and an area of 10,654 sq km with a population of 6.73
million. It has 75 scientific research institutions and 16 colleges and universities in
the city, with a total of 271,000 technical personnel.
The Qingdao High-Tech Industrial Park (QDHIP) lies in the eastern part of the
City in Laoshan District, covering an area of 67 sq km, including five parts: the
industrial area of 9.8 sq km, the section of higher education, the section of scientific
research, the tourism zone and a residential quarters. It also has a scientific and
technological development center and a pilot base.
The pillar industries of the park are biological engineering,
electronic information, optomechatronic integration, household
appliances, new materials and new energy resources. The park plans to establish 100
high-tech enterprises and five or more enterprises groups, and a number of engineering and
technological research bases or pilot bases. Its total revenue from industrial production
and trade in the year of 2000 is expected to exceed RMB27.5 billion with the export
value reaching US $400 million.
A Qingdao non-governmental science and technology park was set up with a
planned area of 2 sq km in the high-tech park in late 1999. |
