An ancient tomb was
unearthed in Hunan province's Yuanling county. After
careful examination, archaeologists have announced that
the tomb dates back 2,000 years to the early Han dynasty.
The tomb was discovered and acknowledged by the Hunan
Archaeology Institute and the Changshang Land Structure
Institute. As they conducted the excavation, they adapted
radar and other advanced techniques to the survey.
The area consists of dozens of small burial crypts and
archaeologists suspect that an aristocrat is buried in the
main tomb. This is the largest tomb ever found in China
and it is still not clear whether or not it has been
looted.
Jiaotou village, where the tomb is located, is surrounded
by a river on three sides. In 1980, excavation work began,
and several artifacts, dating back from Han dynasty, have
been found. |
