Airports of Beijing and Tianjin to Combine

Beijing Capital International Airport and Tianjin Binhai International Airport are to join forces to establish a new airport. group.

They plan to form China's first trans-regional airport group, which will be capable of handling airport design, construction, investment and management.

The new group will also team up with the enterprises under the Civil Aviation Administration, with the aim of increasing transport capacity by building up a comprehensive network of railway, road and marine transport links.

Company officials say the move will help optimize the resources of the two airports, which are about 130 kilometers apart.

The Beijing airport is operating at almost full capacity, while Tianjin Airport doesn't have enough passengers or freight.
